"Animated with the Lake Applet"

Hi, welcome to my "Meet the person behind Elk Pass page". I live in a small town (pop. 1500) nestled between Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams and the notorious Mt. St. Helens. I enjoy most outdoor activities and I have a passion for photography. No, at this time I do not have a gallery of my best work on this site but it is one of my future plans. However, Postcards from Elk Pass is made up of mostly my work and therefore my photographs can be viewed there. I am currently seeking a Bachelor's of Science degree at The Evergreen State College and my current program is Environmental Science. The program focuses on analytical chemistry, GIS/GPS, geology and geochemistry. I have a passion to mediate the effects that urban expansion has on wildlife and their habitats. In Washington, habitat encompassing an area the size of Spokane is lost every year to urban development. This is an unacceptable rate. Wildlife is much like the canaries in the coal mines. Their demise marks the eventual demise of the human race. We need to learn to live in harmony with nature not in opposition.

Yes, some of these pages have a hunting slant to them and will undoubtably offend some people. I'm sorry if it does. However, hunting is a part of this countries heritage and in fact, is the heritage of all who live on this earth. I personally feel that harvest numbers for animals are understated and that people are taking game faster than the population can regenerate itself. Therefore, I have chosen to do my part to educate others in the problem and how they can make the difference. I do this in the capacity of a Washington State Hunter Education Instructor. The Washington Hunter Education program's purpose is to educate hunters to be safe, responsible and ethical hunters. I emphasize that I am not promoting hunting itself but rather the safe, responsible and ethical pursuit of this age old tradition. I know it sounds circular. However, I believe that as people become more aware of the animals they hunt they will begin to feel an infinity and appreciation for them. This feeling will lead to a desire to protect and preserve the animals so that future generations will be able to enjoy the resource as well.

I love to travel and encourage anyone in the world to e-mail me about their home. I know my schedule sounds pretty tight but, if you take the time to write me, I promise (be patient) I'll write back. Oh, before I end this description I want to add that I am sure I didn't answer any questions that a visitor might want to know. So ask them, and if I think there not to personal I'll probably answer them. Oh yeah if you must see what I look like then click the button below. I warn you though I take lousy pictures. Well, enjoy the rest of the site and be sure to sign the Guest Book.
