Watch for our new reader board sign! We will be installing a new lighted reader board cabinet in front of Station 15-1. This reader board will allow us to communicate burn ban information, as well as, fire safety information to the public. The sign should be in place by the end of July.
"Give Burns the Boot" - On October 3rd, Lewis 15 firefighters will again be soliciting donations on behalf of the Northwest Burn Foundation. Firefighters from all over the Northwest participate in this very worth while charity. You can find out more information about the Northwest Burn Foundation by visiting their website at Winlock- Firefighters from Lewis #15 will be honoring two local elementary school students with a "Community Hero Award" at Winlock Elementary on May 1st, 1998. Erik Garcia (age 9, 4th grade) and Lakisha Fox (age 9, 4th grade) will be recognized for their quick action in alerting 9-1-1 and nearby adults to smoke coming from a residence in their neighborhood. On April 17th, Fire District #15 responded to the report of smoke coming from a residence on Cedar Court in Winlock. Erik and Lakisha, who were in the area, initiated the call. The children saw smoke coming from the residence and heard an alarming smoke detector in the home. They called 9-1-1 and alerted an adult in the area. Firefighters responded quickly and found some food cooking on a stove that had been inadvertently left unattended. The actions of these children possibly prevented a serious accident. The ceremonies will take place as part of Winlock Elementary's regularly scheduled "Students of the Month" assembly. The assembly will take place in the elementary school gym on Benton Ave. in Winlock. The assembly starts at 9:30 am and the press is welcome to attend. The children were nominated for the award by the firefighters who responded to the scene. Erik's parents are Martha and Oreste Garcia of Winlock. Lakisha's parents are Andrea and Bruce Calvert of Winlock. Back to the top Tuesday, May 5th, 1998 I-5 NB milepost 62 Winlock- Firefighters from Lewis #15 responded to a combination semi-truck accident with a rear trailer over-turned on I-5 at milepost 62 Northbound. First arriving WSP units on the scene reported a spill of kerosene from the trailer.
The northbound lanes were closed for about one hour while fire crews initiated their response. Fire crews applied a foam blanket the spilled material and the over-turned trailer. The shipping papers for the cargo indicated that the shipment included kerosene, paint thinner, denatured alcohol, and acetone. After consulting a nation-wide hazardous materials response consulting agency (CHEMTREC), I-5 was again opened to northbound traffic after on-scene crews determined that threat had been minimized. The northbound lanes were closed for approximately one hour, creating a large back up of traffic. WDOT and the Washington State Department of Ecology also responded to the incident. Traffic will remain slow in the area for an unknown amount of time while DOE and WDOT are in the processes of cleaning up the spill and the accident. An aid unit from Fire District #2 Toledo also responded to assist District #15 units.

Firefighters from Lewis #15 responded to a structure fire Saturday night at 219 SE First Street in Winlock. Crews were dispatched shortly before midnight.
On arrival, the two story single family residence was 60 - 70% involved in fire. The occupants were able to evacuate from the residence prior to the arrival of fire crews. Firefighters from Lewis #15 quickly deployed lines to contain the fire, as well as, protect another residence to the north of the involved structure. One engine company from District #5 in Napavine also responded to assist in the operation.
Venetian blinds in the second story windows of the exposed residence reportedly melted due to the radiant heat of the fire; however, due the quick action of firefighters, no other damage to the exposed home was reported.
Cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Investigation of the cause has been referred to the Lewis County Fire Marshal's office for investigation.
Three engine companies and a aid unit responded from Lewis #15 with a total of 18 firefighters and one engine company with a total of five firefighters responded from Lewis #5 (Napavine).
