District #15 Open Burning Considerations

Open burning of natural vegetation during open burning periods is permitted in the unincorporated areas Lewis County Fire District #15. Natural vegetation is defined as material that has been trimmed or cut from living or once living plants and/or trees. Burning of dimensional lumber, garbage or other material that are not of vegetative base are prohibited. Open burning is not permitted during nighttime hours. Burning piles are limited to the dimensions of 10 feet by 10 feet. Information about permits for burn piles larger dimensions can be obtained by contacting the Washington State Department of Natural Resources at 740-6820.

Open burning is also permitted inside the city limits of Winlock. Burning permits are required inside the city limits of Winlock. Burning piles within the City of Winlock are required to be no larger than 4 feet in diameter and must be 50 feet from any structures. Burning Permits can be obtained at Winlock City Hall 323 NE First Street in Winlock.

Open burning is permitted on the ground or in "burn barrels" with a screen on top or other spark-resisting appliance.

The following consideration should be made whenever you engage open burning:

Burn Bans are occasionally placed into effect during the particularly dry months or whenever the wildland fire danger is high. Please call 740-1146 to get details about possible burning bans or restrictions.
